The SeQuant® Anion Membrane Suppressor (SAMS™) is a high performance anion suppressor for Ion Chromatography (IC). Merck SeQuant designed this high performance membrane suppressor to operate together with the Continuous Anion Regeneration System (CARS™). It provides a high capacity, chemically regenerated, membrane suppressor that, through an ion exchange based neutralization reaction, converts anionic chromatographic eluents to their corresponding low conducting acids (carbonic acid, water). It thereby reduces the background conductivity and increases the sensitivity for the analyte anions, that are converted to their corresponding strong acids (e.g., hydrochloric acid).
SAMS™ enables, according to a proven principle, a continuous high capacity suppression and, due to its unique design, the band broadening is kept to a minimum. It can be installed in practically all IC systems in use today, and, in combination with the SeQuant Continuous Regeneration System ( CARS™ ), a continuous suppression is obtained without the need for complicated electrochemical devices or the handling of large volumes of sulphuric acid.
The Continuous Anion Regeneration System (CARS™) is easy to use and offers continuous operation of the membrane suppressor in Anion, Ion Chromatography (IC). It enables months of unattended operation of the SAMS™ suppressor at an exceptionally low and stable background conductivity level. CARS™ is based on the recirculation of a polymeric high molecular weight liquid cation exchanger that acts as a shuttle carrying cations between an external cation exchanger cartridge and the suppressor membrane.
The robust and validated design makes it easy to install and use. The extreme capacity enables suppression of high ionic strength eluents, and low background conductivity is maintained, regardless of eluent composition or if running gradients.
